Are you looking for a fun and engaging creative writing activity for your ESL/ELA learners? Have your students put a spin on a classic fairy tale using this project booklet that will guide and support them in the writing process. This project booklet can be used as a creative writing assignment around Halloween or all year round. You may also use it as a final task when teaching the elements of a short story, the hero's journey, or the characteristics of fairy tales. The project may be carried out individually, in teams of two or four students.
⭐The downloaded file includes:
- Fairy Tales with a Twist Project Booklet - PDF and PPT files.
- Read It First (Teacher Directions) document containing the editable assessment rubric (PPT file only).
Please note that this resource does not come in paperless option, but you can import the PPT file into a Google Slides™ and add text boxes if you wish to use it in your Google Classroom™.
Be advised that the entire document is NOT EDITABLE. You may edit only the assessment rubric included in the Read It First document.

Please note that the plot diagram showcases the elements of a short story: exposition, conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. As extra support, you may want to introduce students to the hero's journey. However, this resource does not contain information about this common story template since learners' task is to put a spin a classic fairy tale, so they simply need to follow the original storyline.
